A Carol Service

Last night I was invited to a carol service by The Loughborough Students Union.

It was held at a local church and was brilliant. There must have been well over a
hundred young people there and the singing was awsome. Raised the hairs on the back
of the neck.

It was so nice to see young people thoroughly enjoying themselves without the use of
alcohol or drugs!

A really great evening.

Chris is still helping me with the new website for my internet business.

New Doors

Yep we had new doors installed upstairs yesterday.

Looking good. A local man came and did it for us at a very resonable price. He did a very good job.

Chris is helping me set up the excellent new system from The Six Figure Mentors.

Stuart who is the brains behind all this has really done an excellent job. Watch this blog for more future information.

In the meantime I'm getting a lot of interest in my cashmachinewebsite. You can download an excellent bootcamp.

Joke for today: A teacher addresses his class for the first time. If there are any idiots in the class then stand up now. One student stands up. That's interesting says the teacher. Why do you consider yourself an idiot? I don't was the reply I just didn't like to see you standing there on your own.

What a Great Attitude

Hi there

Sue, my better half, works as a personal assistant to one of the senior professors at Loughborough University.

One of her special projects of late has been to set up a special relationship with the University of Malay as a result of which 8 engineering students are on a years placement with a major Malayan engineering company.

One of these students, a young lady has sent an article which has been published on the University website.

In it she has spoken of her first 4 months working in Malaya.

Despite the difficulties of very long tiresome hours and having to work 6 days a week in the extreme humidity which she is not used to she is full of enthusiasm.

As she says she is not just learning about how industry works and the technical side of the business she is also learning about new cultures, different people but perhaps most of all about herself.

She says "we are taking a little trip of self-discovery that no tutor, no exam, no text book and no library reference section could ever really teach you"

What a marvelous attitude.

I hope that in the future far more young people will have the opportunity to travel to a different country to continue their education. It is the best hope for the world's future.

Thought for today: Do you try to understand other peoples beliefs and cultures?

Joke for today:- Did you here about the overweight ballerina? She had to wear a three-three.

Exciting or what? Well it is for me!

Hi there

Found out something exciting this week. Well exciting for me although probably boring for you!

Actually it was Sue who found out this information as she is the one who is more involved in family history than me.

What she found out was that my great great gggggrandfather was a famous British judge and politician back in the early 18th century.

His name was Sir John Pratt (note the "Sir") A member of the aristocracy no less!

He was a Member of Parliament then went on to be Chancellor of the Exchequer in 1721 and was also Lord Chief Justice of England from 1718 to 1725.

One of his sons (the younger brother of my direct ancestor) was created Earl Camden in 1786 and was a personal friend of William Pitt the famous Prime Minister.

He was heavily involved in the discussions regarding taxing the colonies and in fact I believe he was against it. If he had got his way the American War of Independence may not have occurred.

Anyrate its strange how finding out such information affected me. For some reason it has given me much more confidence to build my internet business. Strange really.

Obviously the family went downhill from then onwards!!

Thought for today. Do you appreciate what your ancestors have done for you?

It was brought home to me

Hi there

Sue, my better half, is the personal assistant to one of the professors at Loughborough University (actually to more than one professor but that's another story).

Last week one of the students who had just obtained his advanced degree arranged for his parents to visit the university before he returned home.

This young gentleman happens to be a Palestinian and has been studying here for a number of years.

Sue had helped him on several occasions and as a thank you was taken to lunch by him and his parents.

During the lunch the conversation turned to what impressions the parents received on visiting England.

The overriding impression was our freedom.

They couldn't get over the fact that they saw in the town centre people of all different religions, colour and ethnic background going about their business.

They were mingling together in the market with no apparent animousity to one another.

Bear in mind that Loughborough is only a medium sized town and it is true that you see burkas, saris, turbans, orthodox Jewish dress etc all the time.

This statement by the parents when relayed to me pulled me up short.

I just take seeing all this different people walking around without any apparent fear as normal.

There is the occasional ill feeling I suppose but relatively minor compared with other areas of the world

In Palestine this highly intelligent and qualified young man has to pass through 3 check points on the way to and from work including strip searches every day!

No I'm not pointing the finger at either the Israelies or the Arabs as they both have a valid point of view and I'm sure that there is good and bad on both sides.

I am just pointing out what a joy it is to live in a country where we take freedom for granted.

Isn't maintaining this situation something really worth protecting

Long may it continue.

Thought for today:- Do you appreciate the freedoms you have in your life?

Joke for today:- Does killing time damage eternity?

In 1798 Nelson destroyed the French fleet thus cutting off Napoleon's supply route to his army in Egypt.

It ain't my fault guv.

Hi there

At present in the UK there is still a lot of talk about a "gentleman" who shot his former girlfriend wounding her and then shot dead her new boyfriend.
After that he then shot an unarmed police officer who was just sitting in his patrol car causing severe facial injuries and the loss of at least one eye.
After several days he was cornered by the police and after some hours negotiating then shot himself.
Now his mother brother et al are blaming the police for his death and the inevitable enquiry costing pounds will now ensue.
Sorry but he was a nasty piece of work. He had just been released from prison for assaulting his 9 year old daughter for goodness sake and then goes on to shoot his girlfriend etc.
Why oh why are the poor old police being blamed,
Surely his family must bear some of the blame? After all they brought him up not he police!
Maybe they would gain more respect if they appeared to be more concerned for his victims and their families.
As usual it's "it ain't my fault gov". Let's blame everyone else so we don't feel guilty.
Sorry for the rant but there does appear to be a trend in society for us not to take responsibility for our actions.
In the first company I ever worked for the managing director always insisted that no one would ever get into trouble for making a mistake PROVIDED that they admitted it immediately so that everyone concerned could pull together and rectify it.
It was the best environment I ever worked in as people were much more relaxed and therefore made less mistakes. Simple eh?
Thought for today:- Are we big enough to take responsibility for our mistakes?
Joke for today:- A man is checking into an hotel. The receptionist asks him if he would like a room with a bath or a shower. What's the difference asks the man. Well explains the clerk in a bath you can sit down. Boom boom
